You have decided that you would like to start your own Holistic Business – or perhaps you just want to develop your own spiritual and psychic potential and don’t know where to start?

This page will give you some guidelines to consider when booking training courses plus some other information you might want to consider if starting a business.

Developing your Psychic and Spiritual Potential

There are an increasing number of people who want to explore their spirituality these days – and a huge number of organisations and people ready to help you, some of them free – but most for a fee, after all we all have to make a living.  I shall talk about paying for training in a moment, however to start with I recommend that you begin by exploring the internet, or reading books and magazines which can give you guidance.  There are spiritual communities on the net which offer somewhere to go and talk about how you feel with like minded souls who are also developing spiritually.  For more information on this, please visit my sister site www.pennymoon.co.uk

I want to work as a therapist, but don’t know which therapy to train in?

With so many different therapies on offer it may be tricky deciding which to go for…after all, you don’t have money to waste on training in something that turns out to be unsuitable for you, or which there no demand is for.

  • Research ALL the therapies you are considering carefully.  You can find more information on the ‘What Therapy’ page
  • Consider your own physical fitness.  If you wish to pursue a career in massage for example, this requires a high level of physical fitness
  • How many other therapists offering the same therapies are working in your area?  It is always a good idea to check out the competition.  I believe that there is more than enough work out there for all of us, however, if your area has a lot of therapists, then you may wish to consider changing the therapy you plan to train in, or offering a range of therapies (something I would strongly advise anyway)
  • Certainly when starting out…I would advise sticking with well tested and ‘mainstream’ therapies.  You can build on your portfolio later if you wish to add on some of the less well known therapies.
  • Don’t allow yourself to get carried away by any of the hype surrounding what are described as ‘New’ Fantastic’ healing therapies that claim to be able to strengthen, or focus your healing ability…if you are just starting out, try to stick with the mainstream.  I know I have said that twice, but it is important!

I want to work as a Psychic Reader, but don’t know whether I have the ability…

Psychic readers are slightly different.  Generally, they are people who feel that they have a psychic gift or talent, or who have been reading for friends and family for some time and decide to go ‘public’.

  • Decide which form of readings you will be offering…as with therapies, there are a bewildering array of different types of reading available, from Tarot and Runes, to Angel Cards, Clairvoyance, Mediumship, Scrying and Tasseography! (Tea Leaves to you and me)
  • Once again, research is essential – see what is available in your area
  • Now this is the tricky bit.  Can you actually do it?  That means without a book to refer to…Lol…as training for Psychic Readers is relatively uncommon, practice is everything if you want to read for the public – and there are a whole of other issues to consider in addition to the actual process of reading the cards, but we shall cover those on the ‘Ethics’ page.
  • My own method of making the jump from private to public readings was to spend two weeks doing nothing but readings…I collared everyone I knew, from acquaintances about whom I knew very little, to friends about whom I knew a lot.  I read for everyone for free and then asked for honest feedback on my performance.
  • If you are reading with any form of cards, it is essential that you find the ‘right deck’ for you.  There are hundreds (honestly!) of different types of deck and it may take some time before you find the one that really works for you.  You will know when you find it – trust me!
  • If you are considering training, then please read the next section carefully.

I want to sell New Age, Wiccan and Pagan goods or supply to Therapists

For retail businesses it is incredibly important that you know you have a market for the goods before investing in costly stock.

  • Research your target market carefully… who will be buying your products, who else is offering this sort of product, what prices are they selling for…how much postage are they charging if it is mail order.  There is more information on this subject on the ‘Retail Traders’ page
  • Where will you be selling your products; mail order, online, holistic/craft fairs, own shop
  • If you need finance from a bank, you will need a business plan (More info on the Business Planning page)  Even if you do not need finance, a business plan is really worth doing – it will give guidelines which enable you to properly measure how well you are doing
  • Are you making your own products…?  Then you need to price them very carefully to ensure you get a return – but that price must reflect what people are prepared to pay.  BEFORE buying expensive materials, you should test your market and ensure there is a demand for your products! More information on the ‘Retail Traders’ page

I need to train, or gain qualifications.  How do I know that the training provider is any good?

This is a very good question – you need to be absolutely sure that any qualification you receive is worth the very nice certificate it has been printed on…before you part with any cash!

Please go to the page on ‘Training Courses’ for information…
