First Impressions are lasting impressions. Our business literature, whether it is leaflets, business cards, brochures, advertisements - or even our website - are out there 24 hours a day promoting us.

There are an infinite number of ways to write and present all this stuff - but here are a few simple rules:

  • SPELECHEK EVRYTHIGN
  • …And then check it again, by reading it aloud to make sure it makes sense. There are lots of helpful tools out there to help with punctuation and grammar.
  • Get someone else to check it too.
  • K - Keep
  • I - It
  • S - Simple
  • S - Stupid
  • Do not try to cram too much in!
  • Be BOLD to make it stand out
  • Professionally printed material ALWAYS looks better than inkjet. Buy the best you can afford…
  • …But…Do not buy huge quantities until you are sure it is working!
  • Change it every now and again
  • Have different flyers for different aspects of your business

And the last and most important point-

DOES YOUR LITERATURE PASS THE 'SO WHAT?' TEST?

I am just as guilty of doing this as most of us, but I am getting better!

Remember that the most important thing is to sell the BENEFITS not the FEATURES of your product or service
